Sudbury Mobile Optician specializes in offering in-home eyecare services to residents living in the Greater Sudbury and Manitoulin Island area.
The primary focus is to help those who may have difficulty accessing traditional eyecare service due to extenuating circumstances such as low mobility, hospitalization, etc.
We visit hospitals, nursing homes, retirement residences, as well as private homes to fit and dispense high quality eyewear in a time when the client may not otherwise be able to visit an Optometric practice or Optical store.
We also specialize in assisting individuals on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) access their vision care coverage for new eyeglasses in a time when many local offices have elected to no longer do so.
We are committed to offering clients an extremely pleasant and affordable experience without the hassle of having to arrange transportation or the physical and mental stress of leaving their home.
WHO I AM
Shawn Lessard, Licensed Optician
I am a Licensed Optician who has been practicing in Ontario for more than 15 years. During that time, I have had the priviledge of working throughout our province providing both clinical and retail eyecare to thousands of satisfied patients. One of the highlights of my career was being in integral part of the 2017 tour of the CNIB Northern Ontario Mobile Eyecare Unit (Eye Van) where we provided critical ophthalmic care to more than 3000 patients in over 30 remote Northern Ontario Communities in the span of 8 months.

My passion is to provide quality eye-care to those in our community who need the most. This includes our aging population, low-mobility community members or any others who may have challenges accessing traditional eye-care services.
Mobile Optician is designed to provide the most reliable, convenient and affordable eyecare services to the most vulnerable members of our society, in the comfort of their own home.

Whether you yourself are in need of in-home services, or if you are the primary caregiver for a family member in need, I encourage you browse this site or contact me by phone or email. I hope to hear from you soon!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO YOU OFFER IN-HOME EYE EXAMINATIONS?
No. Mobile Optician provides in-home Optician services, and not optometric examinations. An optician is a licensed professional who specializes in the fitting, measurement, fabrication and adjustment of visual aid devices. Though we know in-home eye exams would be a big help to those with limited mobility, it simply isn't within our scope of practice.
DO I NEED A NEW PRESCRIPTION TO BE FITTED FOR NEW GLASSES?
Though it isn't necessary it is recommended. Most eyecare professionals agree that most individuals between the age of 20 and 64 year of age should have routine eye examinations every two years, while children and seniors should increase the frequency to every year. However, in special circumstances and emergencies it can be considered to have new glasses made from a prescription that is more than two years old.
DO YOU BILL TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY?
Yes. mobile optician is a registered service provider with most major insurance companies including manulife, sunlife, great west life, greenshield, blue-cross, NIHB, ODSP, as well as others. For more information on the details regarding insurance coverage, please feel free to contact our office.
DO YOU OFFER FINANCING OPTIONS?
No. As is the case with most optical dispensaries, we take full payment at the time of order. However, for your convenience we accept payment from insurance, all major credit cards, interact debit, as well as cash and mobile e-transfers.
CAN I GET A SAME-DAY APPOINTMENT?
We try our best to accommodate everyone's schedule as much as possible. Though we can sometimes rush appointments in times of emergencies, we typically ask patients to expect a wait of 2 to 3 days for an appointment opening.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY NEW EYEWEAR TO BE READY?
The amount of time required to manufacture eyewear can vary greatly depending on factors such as prescription, materials, and availability. As a general rule of thumb, you should expect a wait time of approximately 1 week for your new glasses to be delivered.
HOW HAS COVID19 AFFECTED MOBILE OPTICIAN?
Your safety during these trying times is our utmost priority! All in-home visits are performed in accordance to the health and safety guidelines set out by the Government of Ontario as well as the College of Opticians of Ontario. Your Optician will wear a face mask and gloves during the entirety of his visit, and all product and instruments will be thoroughly sanitized before and after use.
WHAT AREAS DO YOU PROVIDE SERVICE?
We like to call our "official" service area the greater Sudbury and surrounding area. This can include many of the outlying areas such as Conniston, Lively, Valley East, Hanmer, Capreol, etc.
However, we aim to provide our much needed mobile services to further surrounding areas such as Manitoulin Island by booking multiple appointments on the same day. Please call us for more information on dates and times we will be in your service area.
I am on ODSP. Can I get glasses with you?
Absolutely YES! In addition to helping low mobility residents, we pride ourselves for providing a convenient manner to access your ODSP vision care benefits. Please visit our services section for more information!
